It’s been a couple of months since our last update and I thought you might like to see how the wheels are developing.
We have been using our field journals to record what we discover as we go on our nature rambles. We chose our favourite entries, along with photos we have taken to decide what we want to include on our phonology wheel each month.
My 4 year old is struggling to stick to one section each month. This week, as we were working on July’s wedge, she went ahead and ‘finished’. The other children tried to explain that the year isn’t finished but she didn’t mind at all, she was working ahead!
I have really enjoyed seeing how the seasonal aboriginal calendar for our area is indicative of the weather patterns and animal behaviour we experience here. I have also enjoyed talking to some farmers in this area and seeing how they work to a yearly calendar that revolves around what they are doing. (lambing, sowing etc).
I love learning about where we live and this project is really helping to open our eyes to what is happening all around us!
